For Non-Profit Organizations

Barry recognizes that non-profit organizations don’t strive for financial profits. They work to improve the lives of the people and our environment. Nevertheless, surpluses are better than deficits, teamwork is better than a group of disconnected individuals, and planning is better than reacting. So many of the classic ‘business’ disciplines apply directly to non-profit organizations.

The typical non-profit client is established and has an annual operating budget of at least $500,000. They have a board of directors and a full-time executive director who has been in place for several years. Neither the board nor the executive director are generating enough effective new ideas for the organization to serve their cause or expand their fund raising. In fact, the board seems to take direction from the executive director instead of the other way around. The organization is in danger of drifting... who knows where.

After working with Neagle & Associates, Ltd. the organization is making news with innovative programs to support their cause. They have an active board who brings the right mix of skills and contributions to the organization, and the executive director is becoming more proactive. There are new fund raising programs, and the reach of the organization has been extended to more and better donors and grant organizations.

Non-Profit Board Development
Most non-profits have a board that is very dedicated to the cause of the organization. However, not all board members have the resources, contacts, or personal skills to bring the organization the extra added value it needs. We develop a multi-year plan to identify skills that are needed on the board, attract and recruit them, and have them join a new, focused, and value-add board.

Non-Profit Client Successes:

  • Assisted the Board Chairperson with the implementation of a strategic plan for a public communications agency. Broke down the strategic plan objectives into measureable goals, with timetables and leaders identified. Merged many of the objectives and initiatives into simplified activities to increase the likelihood of success. Identified needed staffing changes. Accomplished all early-stage goals and was thanked by the Board for contribution and professionalism.
  • Consulted with the Executive Director of a housing agency. Worked on enhancing the Board of Directors with new committee structures, expectation setting, and follow through, resulting in a much stronger Board. Also continue to provide regular counsel and advice to senior management on people leadership issues, expanded missions, and executive direction.
  • Worked with a private learning center to help the Executive Director improve her personal productivity and time management. Also worked to develop combined internal audit procedures that ensure compliance with multiple State and Federal regulations, avoiding disruptive external audits. The Executive Director has said, “Barry gave me my life back.”
